Processing fuzzy spatial queries: a configuration similarity approach
نویسنده
چکیده
Increasing interest for configuration similarity is currently developing in the context of Digital Libraries, Spatial Databases and Geographical Information Systems. The corresponding queries retrieve all database configurations that match an input description (e.g., "find all configurations where an object x0 is about 5km northeast of another x1, which, in turn, is inside object x2"). This paper introduces a framework for configuration similarity that takes into account all major types of spatial constraints (topological, direction, distance). We define appropriate fuzzy similarity measures for each type of constraint to provide flexibility and allow the system to capture real-life needs. Then we apply pre-processing techniques to explicate constraints in the query, and present algorithms that effectively solve the problem. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the applicability of our approach to images and queries of considerable size.

Queries by visual content using fuzzy similarity measures on regional descriptions
This paper introduces a new CBIR system based on segmented images and fuzzy similarity measures. It gives the possibility to the user to specify a set of regions, and to retrieve images containing these regions in an approximate spatial configuration. It also supports competitive queries, and allows the expert-user to manipulate the parameters of the functions involved. In this manuscript we fo...
متن کاملA NEW FUZZY MORPHOLOGY APPROACH BASED ON THE FUZZY-VALUED GENERALIZED DEMPSTER-SHAFER THEORY
In this paper, a new Fuzzy Morphology (FM) based on the GeneralizedDempster-Shafer Theory (GDST) is proposed. At first, in order to clarify the similarity ofdefinitions between Mathematical Morphology (MM) and Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST),dilation and erosion morphological operations are studied from a different viewpoint. Then, based on this similarity, a FM based on the GDST is proposed. Unlik...
متن کاملA Fuzzy Image Matching Algorithm with Linguistic Spatial Queries
The function for spatial queries has been provided in some image retrieval systems for finding images satisfying given spatial relations. However, images themselves may contain ambiguity or the image processing technologies adopted may extract objects not accurately enough. Processing image queries in a flexible way is thus desired. In this paper, we thus propose a fuzzy image matching algorith...
متن کاملA Qualitative Representation and Similarity Measurement Method in Geographic Information Retrieval
The modern geographic information retrieval technology is based on quantitative models and methods. The semantic information in web documents and queries cannot be effectively represented, leading to information lost or misunderstanding so that the results are either unreliable or inconsistent. A new qualitative approach is thus proposed for supporting geographic information retrieval based on ...
متن کاملAn Intelligent mutli-object retrieval system for historical mosaics
In this work we present a Mosaics Intelligent Retrieval System (MIRS) for digital museums. The objective of this work is to attain a semantic interpretation of images of historical mosaics. We use the fuzzy logic techniques and semantic similarity measure to extract knowledge from the images for multi-object indexing. The extracted knowledge provides the users (experts and laypersons) with an i...
